Taking care of your silverware

The silversmith quality stainless steel used by Guy Degrenne is ideal as it requires only minimum care – furthermore, it has respond to extremely high manufacturing standards. However, any acid or chloride-based product (salt) coming into contact with the blades will cause pitting and staining.

HOW TO WASH STAINLESS STEEL CUTLERY

In the dishwasher
Open the door at the end of the washing cycle to avoid condensation stains on the blades. Check the rinsing product. Water that is too hard and too much washing liquid will attack the steel. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions pertaining to hard water. The cutlery baskets should not be too heavily loaded.

By hand:
If you leave the products to dry on the draining board, the blades will oxidise.
Use a sponge. Avoid corrosive or abrasive products.
If you don’t wash your cutlery immediately, rinse it in hot water to limit the acid in food from attacking the steel.

STORE YOUR CUTLERY CAREFULLY TO AVOID DAMAGING IT

Air and water oxidise metal. Wipe your cutlery and dishes dry before storing them and keep them in a closed environment. Guy Degrenne offers specially designed storage cases that will preserve your silverware’s initial beauty.

THE SIMPLEST WAY TO TAKE CARE OF YOUR CUTLERY

If your cutlery needs brightening up, use a reputable product such as Guy Degrenne’s “Polinox”. Polinox enables steel to retain its original sparkle. Use it for stains (light deposits) or to prevent the steel from becoming dull.
